An Immersive Brand Activation at CEMA Summit 2026

The future of event marketing is increasingly being defined by one question: how do brands create experiences that people genuinely want to stop for, enter, explore and remember?

At CEMA Summit 2026 in Toronto, that question felt particularly relevant.

Held from August 9–11 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel and hosted by Destination Toronto, the 2026 edition brought together more than 850 corporate event marketers, strategists and industry partners from 19 countries, making it the largest Summit in CEMA’s 27-year history. The event also welcomed 383 first-time participants and 145 attendees from Canada, reflecting CEMA’s expanding international reach.

Against that backdrop, Destination Toronto incorporated NewMedia’s MirrorDome into the Summit experience, creating a visually distinctive immersive activation designed to capture attention, encourage participation and demonstrate how physical environments can become part of the brand story.

For NewMedia, the project represented more than another installation. It demonstrated something increasingly important for experiential marketing: technology creates the strongest impact when it becomes an experience rather than simply a display.

CEMA Summit 2026: Where the World’s Event Marketers Came Together

CEMA Summit is the annual gathering of the Corporate Event Marketing Association, bringing together professionals responsible for corporate events, brand experiences, conferences, trade shows and global event strategies.

The theme for 2026 was appropriately international: “Where the World Comes Together.”

Toronto became the first Canadian city to host the Summit and only the second destination outside the United States to host the event in CEMA’s history.

Across three days, attendees participated in more than 40 practitioner-led educational sessions, global case studies, networking experiences and Main Stage conversations. Programming was organized around three central pillars — Impact, Influence and Intention — addressing how event marketers can create experiences that cross borders, lead more effectively and generate meaningful engagement.

AI, Leadership and the Future of Event Marketing

Artificial intelligence was one of the recurring themes throughout CEMA Summit 2026. Sessions explored how AI can improve efficiency, eliminate repetitive work, support decision-making and reshape the way event teams operate. But an equally important message emerged: technology does not replace human judgment, creativity or cultural understanding.

Omar Johnson, founder of Øpus Intelligence and former CMO of Beats by Dre, closed the Summit exploring the intersection of AI, cultural intelligence and authentic brand communication. The Main Stage program also included Ebony Beckwith, Executive Coach and Founder of Framework, and Elizabeth Maxson, Chief Marketing Officer of Contentful.

Innovation Nation showcased practical applications of technology to real event-industry challenges, with RainFocus taking the top honor for an AI-powered approach to event scheduling.

From Exhibition Object to Brand Experience

One of the fundamental shifts happening in experiential marketing is the transition from objects people look at to environments people participate in. A screen displays. A banner communicates. A stage presents. An immersive brand activation changes that relationship — the visitor becomes part of the experience.

With MirrorDome, reflections continuously change depending on who is standing nearby. Movement alters the visual environment. Entering the structure changes perspective again — the activation behaves differently depending on its audience.

For Destination Toronto at CEMA Summit 2026, that relationship was especially appropriate. The city was hosting an international community of event professionals while positioning itself around creativity, diversity, technology and the possibilities of bringing people together — and MirrorDome translated part of that positioning into something attendees could experience physically.

Why Immersive Brand Activations Matter at Trade Shows

Modern exhibition floors have an attention problem. LED walls are larger, displays are brighter, content moves faster, and almost every exhibitor is competing with audiovisual technology. Simply adding another screen rarely creates differentiation.

Immersive event technology approaches the problem differently. Instead of asking “how do we make our screen bigger,” the more interesting question becomes “how do we make the audience part of the experience.” That shift can take many forms: projection mapping, interactive installations, generative AI experiences, digital humans, immersive domes, holographic environments or responsive content systems — the objective is always the same: transform passive attention into active participation.

This matters because the most valuable event experiences don’t end when someone walks away from an installation. They create moments people photograph, record, share and discuss. Physical experience becomes digital content, and the audience becomes part of the distribution.

CEMA 2026 and the Growing Importance of Experience

The scale of this year’s Summit provides an interesting signal about the industry itself. More than 850 professionals attended, making Toronto the largest CEMA Summit ever, with nearly half of those attendees — 383 people — participating for the first time.

CEMA and PCMA also used the Summit to preview an Events Marketing ROI Benchmarking Model and Toolkit, designed to give event marketers a shared framework for demonstrating the value generated by events. Experiential marketing is entering a period in which creativity alone is not enough — event teams increasingly need to connect Experience, Engagement, Data and Business Impact. The most successful experiential technologies will not simply be the most visually spectacular; they will be the ones capable of creating meaningful participation while supporting measurable objectives.

The Convergence of Immersive Technology and Artificial Intelligence

Another important takeaway from CEMA Summit 2026 is that the next generation of experiential marketing will likely be defined by the convergence of multiple technologies rather than a single platform.

A projection environment can respond to live data. A digital human can converse with visitors. Generative AI can create unique visual content for individual participants. A physical installation can react to movement, voice or audience behavior. An immersive dome can become a responsive environment rather than a space playing a predetermined video.

The future is therefore not simply AI events or immersive events — it is increasingly about intelligent immersive experiences, environments capable of responding to the people inside them. That is a direction NewMedia is actively exploring across its work in immersive event production, projection technology, and AI brand activations.

A Global Event Industry Meeting in Toronto

CEMA Summit 2026 was ultimately about much more than technology. The event brought professionals from 19 countries together to discuss how event marketing is changing across cultures, organizations and markets. Leadership, measurement, AI, cultural relevance, audience engagement and human judgment repeatedly surfaced as interconnected challenges.

The future of events will not be defined by technology replacing human experience. It will be defined by technology making human experience more meaningful. Destination Toronto’s MirrorDome activation at CEMA Summit 2026 was one example of that transition — a physical structure became an experience, the audience became part of the visual environment, and immersive technology became part of the conversation about what live brand engagement can become next.
